Bill Glasson: “Where the gums grew tall in the river silt, by a beautiful water hole”

There is a rich, red volcanic soil on Buderim Mountain, and almost everything grows exponentially there, from bananas and beans, sugarcane, tomatoes and citrus to award-winning coffee. Buderim has been growing some of the finest ginger in the world since just after the First World War and that is what it is famous for worldwide — its ginger and also its wildlife. There are still kangaroos and wallabies leaping, brush turkeys, king parrots and lorikeets flying wherever you look around Buderim, as well as vividly coloured hibiscus, bright bougainvillea, brilliant poinciana and fragrant frangipani.

“We’d been looking round for ages,
Reading ‘Farms for Sale’ in pages
Of the Country Life”

Buderim is actually the oldest established European settlement on the Sunshine Coast — it was founded in 1860. Houses in Buderim have been built in every conceivable style, from the traditional Queenslander to an ultra-contemporary cube. Most of the roads are lined with trees, and you are conscious of the warm, welcoming community spirit.

“Roses grew in wild abandon,
Ten feet high, in bloom”

Everyone seems to want a Buderim address — they say Buderim is tranquil, relaxed and even inspiring and pure magic. The waves crash on to the sand and the sea breeze wafts over you. The schools are good and so are the lifestyle and the weather. It’s a green and pleasant land. For architectural design and services, call David Scott Design today. He specializes in residential projects ranging from high density multi unit housing to additions and alterations — challenging and complex designs whether big or small.
